In-Home Visiting

For most people, after they receive the diagnosis of a life-limiting illness, there is intense emotion, profound worry, as well as a host of pressing, practical matters with which to contend. Whatever the nature of these feelings, they can leave the individual feeling alone and frightened.

Our In-home Visiting Program offers clients a chance to spend time with a compassionate volunteer on a regular basis. Our volunteers are well trained to understand and handle the unique circumstances, practical needs and emotions of someone who is ill. Clients and volunteers are carefully matched. Every effort is made to create the opportunity for this relationship to develop into one that is significant, strong and built upon a foundation of trust, compassion and caring. Contacting Hospice Kingston early on, soon after diagnosis, allows a strong and comfortable relationship to grow.

Hospice Kingston volunteers offer companionship, conversations about day-to-day happenings or about favourite pastimes and interests, enjoying some fresh air and by simply being there. For more information about getting involved, please visit the Volunteers page.
