Fall Continuing Education workshops

Hospice Kingston is committed to the continued education of all our volunteers, and we are pleased to offer these workshops to support the work volunteers do. The fall Continuing Education workshops are here! Please join us on September 21 for the following training sessions:

9:00 am to 10:00 am - BEYOND BARRIERS: ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS FOR HOSPICE KINGSTON
presented by Joanna Michalski

Passed in 2005, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act legislates achieving full accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities by developing, implementing and enforcing accessibility standards. To ensure Hospice Kingston’s volunteers know what that might look like in their work, we will be covering what barriers clients with disabilities might face, and what volunteers need to know to help create a barrier-free community.

10:00 am to 12:00 pm - ABORIGINAL CULTURAL COMPETENCY IN PALLIATIVE CARE
presented by Dionne Nolan

Dionne Nolan, the Aboriginal Patient Navigator at Kingston General Hospital, will be sharing how she works with Aboriginal peoples in the community through their cancer diagnoses, treatments, recovery and palliative care. She will also be leading participants through hands-on activities to help them broaden their understanding of cultural practices.
