Supporting Hospice Kingston clients and caregivers requires sensitivity, compassion and specialized knowledge of the process, as well as the unique challenges of those who grieve.
That is why it is very important that all Hospice Kingston volunteers are well-suited and well trained to deal with one of the most emotionally intense and meaningful experiences for all concerned.
All Hospice Kingston volunteers who provide direct support to clients are required to successfully complete a 30-hour volunteer palliative care training program. The course is comprised of 28 hours of instruction over four full-day sessions. There is also two hours of preparatory reading. The sessions are hosted at Hospice Kingston, 36 Barrie St., and in the Nursing Lab at St. Lawrence College.
The course is held twice a year – in the spring and fall – or as needed. For more information, call 613-542-5013.
